The aluminum part
Each diode sits in an aluminum track, not clipped to a gutter. The channel is doing the concealment work, and it is also the reason the light points where it should. Color matching is part of the specification, and it is why the daytime look holds.
The control question
The lights are individually controllable, which is where the effects come from. That is the difference between one flat color and a display that can move.
